It has probably happened to everyone to prepare coffee and that it is not as good as we would have expected. In these cases, the disappointment is not small because a bad coffee ruins a moment of relaxation and taste.
In fact, it happens that coffee can be burnt, bitter or even have a strange taste. Why isn't the coffee good?
There can be several reasons why coffee is bad, and a few techniques to troubleshoot the problem.
4 reasons why coffee doesn't taste good
The coffee blend
If the coffee has turned out badly, it may be due to poor conservation of the blend. Check if the jar or storage bag is airtight, otherwise there is a risk that the blend will absorb the aromas of the products you keep in the same cabinet where you keep the coffee. Obviously you have to buy good quality blends.
The water
The water used to prepare the coffee must be low in limestone and above all it must be cold. If your tap water isn't good to drink then it isn't suitable for making coffee either. It would be better to use filtered water or natural mineral water, that of the bottle. Do not put too much water, it must reach under the valve, otherwise you will prepare a "watered down" coffee.
The mocha
As we have already seen, the moka should never be washed with detergent so as not to eliminate the natural protective layer that is created inside the moka and to maintain the aroma of the coffee. This does not mean that the moka must not be cleaned, in fact, it is important to always wash it with hot water, carefully removing all coffee powder residues to clean the filter well. The mocha must always be dried carefully otherwise it is very likely that mold will form which could alter the taste of the coffee and also be a risk to our health. It is also important to check and change the gasket when it is about to wear out, otherwise it could give the coffee a disgusting aroma.
Stir the coffee before pouring it
Even if you prefer bitter coffee, it is important that you mix it anyway before drinking it so that it can even out by mixing the thickest part with the most liquid one that comes out last.
