The cappuccino is the go-to espresso based drink for breakfast. It consists of three layers: a shot of espresso, steamed milk, and a layer of frothed milk (or micro-foam). To make this, especially if you don’t have an espresso machine with a steam wand, first heat up some milk on the stove or in the microwave to 150/160°F, then froth it using a mini French press or a milk frother; then brew a shot of espresso in a small cup and free pour some milk and microfoam onto the espresso.
The authentic cappuccino is usually served in a ceramic cup of 5 to 6oz and the proportions are typically a shot of espresso, and equal parts of steamed milk and micro-foam.
