Those who know Caffe Borbone coffee or the coffee market in general know very well that there are different machines that are compatible with coffee pods and coffee capsules.
But are there any differences between the two types? Which of the two guarantees a better coffee? These are some of the questions that often arise when we decide to buy a coffee machine.
What are pods and capsules and how are they made?
Coffee pods and capsules are single-portion doses of coffee that usually contain about 7 grams of ground coffee (for the capsules, some more than others less), which are enclosed in a protective casing. Each capsule or pod can only be used once.
The first difference between the two products lies in the materials with which they were made.
The pods are made with two sheets of filter paper (the same as the tea bags) between which the quantity of ground coffee is compressed. In the case of Caffè Borbone pods, each one is secured by a protective atmosphere in triple layer aluminum film, useful for preserving all its aroma and taste by protecting the coffee from external agents and humidity.
The capsules, on the other hand, have a cylindrical-shaped casing usually made of plastic or aluminum. Unlike pods, the capsules can be of different sizes, which is why it is essential to check the compatibility with the machine you own, when purchasing additional coffee.
Even the Caffè Borbone capsules are packaged in a special protective atmosphere in triple-layer aluminum film.
So are capsules or pods better?
This is a “Million dollar question” as some would say... However, it's always subjective!
What can be seen is that the capsules compared to the pods, being enclosed in a plastic or aluminum package, can in some cases retain the aroma more than the pods.
We underline "sometimes" because it depends a lot on the quality of the coffee, and on the protective atmosphere that surrounds the product. Caffè Borbone has created the triple layer aluminum film, precisely to preserve both in the capsules and in the pods, all the taste and aroma of the coffee.
